Tongue Tie

Ankyloglossia or “tongue tied” is a condition in which the tissues under the tongue can restrict the tongue and disrupt normal functions such as speech, swallowing and breathing.

Research has shown that a tongue tie can be responsible for impeding normal facial development that can lead to orthodontic problems.

A Myofunctional Therapy assessment can help identify this condition and a procedure can be performed that is known as a lingual frenectomy to correct the tethered tissue.   Exercises before and after this surgery are vital to the success to regain normal tongue function.
